Here are some terms we think may be useful for you to know

Acquired Hearing Loss: Hearing loss that occurs after birth, at any time in one’s life perhaps as a result of a condition or an injury.

Late deafened: An individual who loses hearing later in life

Mainstreaming: The practice of placing students with special needs in general education classrooms during specific time periods based on their skills.

Oral: The use of speech 

Prelingual deafness: Deafness that occurs before learning speech or language.

Post-lingual Hearing Loss: Deafness that develops after language development

Residual Hearing: The amount of hearing a person with hearing loss has without the use of hearing aids or cochlear implants

Unilateral Hearing Loss: A type of hearing impairment where there is normal hearing in one ear and impaired hearing in the other.

Bilateral Hearing Loss: Hearing loss in both ears
