Acronyms

As you go through your journey here are some helpful acronyms we think would be good to know and that you may see pop up.

ASL: American Sign Language

CC: Closed captioning- a text version of the audio in a video or television show that allows viewers to read what is being said.

        CART: Communication Access Real-Time Translation- Services a professional service that can be delivered on location or remotely

        EI: Early Intervention- support and educational systems for very young children who have been victims of or who are at high risk for child abuse or neglect as well as children who have developmental delays or disabilities. 

        HAT: Hearing Assistive Technology- Technology that helps a person hear and understand what is being said more clearly and express thoughts more easily.

        IEP: Individualized Education Plan- A legal document under United States law that is developed for each public school child in the US who needs special education

        IFSP: Individualized Family Service Plan- A written plan created to meet the needs, concerns, and priorities of children from birth to age 3 of children and their families.
